Buildings that Benefit the Environment

Gregory Kiss has been advancing the art and technology of environmentally responsible architecture for over 25 years. Since graduating from Yale University and Columbia University School of Architecture and Planning in 1983, he has designed many ground-breaking high-performance building projects in the Americas, Europe and Asia. His research into the application of photovoltaics (PV) for buildings has led to new products and systems, including some of the first building-integrated PV projects in the world. His firm is currently developing systems that integrate water collection, waste treatment and energy generation into building envelopes. His firm, Kiss + Cathcart Architects, is committed to the goal of "productive" projects - buildings which produce a quantifiable benefit to the environment in every possible way. 

 

Kiss + Cathcart is an innovative, research-based architectural practice that has designed a variety of pioneering projects around the world. Significant recent projects include the Stillwell Avenue Solar Train Shed at Coney Island, New York, for New York City Transit; the Bocas del Toro research station in Panama for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute; and the IJsselstein Rowhouses in the Netherlands. Projects under design or study include two zero-impact park building projects for New York City Department of Parks and Recreation; an Eco Mixed-Use project in the United Arab Emirates; and a National Science Foundation research study on the implications of self-sustaining buildings and infrastructure, based on Kiss + Cathcart's 2020 Tower project.
